Foundation
Mountaineers for Himalayas Foundation (MHF) is a private, non-religious, apolitical, non profit-making foundation formed by mountaineers who support the children of the mountains of Nepal, Pakistan, Tibet, India and Bhutan.
MHF believes that basic education is the best guarantee for producing economic, social, cultural and political progress in the area. The foundation’s philosophy replies to the principle of giving the inhabitants of the Himalayas back the good things that they have given mountaineers and travellers when we have visited their lands, and to give it back in the way that seems most necessary, most effective and most lasting to us: by financing a good education for as many children as possible. The MHF patrons travel at least once a year to visit the different projects to see the progress made for themselves and to assure the correct development of the programs in course.
The funds of the Mountaineers for Himalayas Foundation are used to finance the development of projects related to Himalayan children’s elementary education. We apply these funds to specific, lasting projects that are immediately effective and transparent, preferably working with local workers, who are the best experts in the particular features of the area, and to guarantee that our action will always be in full respect of the customs, culture and habits of each village, which we do not want to violate.
The patrons visit regularly and check the actions, for they either go there frequently to climb or visit specifically for checking.
The foundation has grown with the years and has become involved in many different projects. Edurne Pasaban is a member of the foundation and has belonged to the board of governors. Due to Edurne’s passion for the foundation and the need to grow as a foundation, we have decided to promote a new foundation in the Basque Country. Mountaineers for Himalayas Foundation Edurne Pasaban is the little sister of the mother foundation created in Andorra, and which will now have its own patrons and statutes in the Basque Country, although it will work in tune with the mother foundation and for the same projects.
